Epic Declared Malta’s Best Mobile Network In MCA’s Latest National Audit

Epic has been ranked Malta’s best mobile network in an independent quality audit by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA), reaffirming its lead in both speed and reliability across the country. The results place Epic ahead of all other operators in every region of Malta and Gozo, with a commanding national performance margin of over 14%—the highest ever recorded in the MCA’s benchmarking history.
The audit, carried out in May 2025, involved more than 1,500km of testing using industry-standard equipment and methodology. Designed to replicate how consumers actually use their phones, it covered everything from traditional and app-based voice calls to YouTube streaming, file downloads, and web browsing—across urban, suburban, and rural environments.
Crucially, Epic didn’t just win overall. It came first in all six regions tested by the MCA and posted performance leads of over 15% in Gozo and Malta’s Western region. The audit also confirmed Epic’s superiority in both key service categories: voice quality and data throughput. In other words, whether users are calling, browsing, or streaming, Epic is delivering the strongest experience across the board.
“This benchmark validates what our customers already know and what the data has shown time and again—Epic is Malta’s best and fastest network,” said Antoine Galea, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Epic. “Being recognised by both the MCA and Ookla highlights the tangible results of our focused investment strategy and our team’s relentless drive to deliver exceptional connectivity.”
The recognition comes just months after Epic was named Malta’s fastest mobile network by Ookla® Speedtest Awards for the second year running, lending further weight to its position as the operator to beat.
Epic’s performance isn’t accidental. Rather than spreading its investments thinly across the map, the company has taken a precision-led approach. Its 5G rollout focuses on the areas where people actually use data most—high-demand zones like dense urban districts, business hubs, and tourist hotspots. This targeted strategy is reinforced by advanced 4G+ carrier aggregation and ongoing optimisation of the company’s infrastructure.
The result: faster downloads, smoother video streaming, clearer voice calls, and better service even in areas where other networks tend to falter.
“This was about real-world performance, tested under real-life conditions,” said Galea. “We’re proud to lead the market and even more proud that our customers continue to trust us to connect their lives and businesses with the best network experience possible.”
The MCA’s benchmarking results also represent a broader shift in how consumers and regulators are evaluating telecoms infrastructure. Speed alone is no longer enough. The quality of voice connections, consistency of service, and performance during peak demand periods are becoming just as important—and Epic is delivering on all fronts.
The win also gives Epic a competitive edge at a crucial time. With the local market reaching saturation and digital expectations rising across sectors—from e-commerce to real-time business communication—network quality has become a key differentiator. For consumers and businesses alike, Epic’s clear lead offers both reassurance and a tangible reason to switch.
As data demand continues to surge and mobile infrastructure plays an even greater role in economic growth, Epic is positioning itself not just as a top operator, but as a long-term enabler of digital transformation in Malta. The company’s approach blends global best practices with local insight, ensuring that its network upgrades are not just fast, but meaningful.
With national recognition from both the MCA and Ookla under its belt, Epic now finds itself with both the pressure and the platform to maintain its lead. For now, though, it has every reason to claim the title of Malta’s best—and most trusted—mobile network.
