A potential target of an uncovered planned polonium assassination plot has been identified as a high-ranking Maltese security forces officer.

The officer, who is stationed in a key position in the Maltese justice system, was apparently targetted due to their work disrupting established criminal rings on the island, including drug and prostitution rings.

The exact reason this individual was targetted has yet to be identified, and investigations are still underway to fully confirm who the target was. However, sources close to the investigation have not ruled out other potential targets.

This revelation comes as police continue to investigate ?ebbu? resident Jomic Calleja, a former bitcoin auto-trader who is being accused of importing the radioactive polonium and C4 explosives as part of a targetted assassination plot.

He is believed to have purchased these materials from the dark web.

During court proceedings into the case, police said two people had approached them last week, with one claiming to have information on the identity of the target.

Calleja has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
