In Photos: Mosta Tree Protest Rages On With Hundreds Of Attendees
Hundreds of protestors have reconvened in Mosta Square demanding that the local council and ERA shoulder responsibility for the now-overturned decision to uproot and move a row of 12 ficus trees which have graced the busy piazza for around half a century.
Tonight’s demonstration succeeds a turbulent one held yesterday which eventually led Mosta mayor Chris Grech to retract his decision, clarifying that the trees will remain in their original home.
So in light of this development, protestors aim to celebrate the victory, to call for Grech and the council to shoulder responsibility for the “obscene decision they took and that was only reversed thanks to public resistance”, and to request a reform in ERA, which is “clearly not serving its function to safeguard the environment”.
Images taken by Lovin Malta show hundreds gathered at the site of the works holding up signs and. banners calling for, among other things, “more trees and less assholes”.
Stay tuned for more footage of this evening’s public action.
