‘Is He Another God?’ Maltese Politicians React To €2 Planning Fine On Christian Borg’s Penthouse

Maltese politicians have taken to social media to comment on the absurd fine issued by the Planning Authority to Christian Borg for an illegally built structure on the roof of his Swieqi penthouse.
Apart from the criminal charges including kidnapping, money laundering and tax fraud, Borg is set to be fined €2 every day by the Planning Authority. The enforcement noice states that if 365 days elapse without the illegal structure having been dealt with, the fine will increase to €4 daily.
This cage-like structure was exposed by Momentum leader Arnold Cassola and the night after this reveal, workers covered it up with white boards. The PA noted that no permission was sought for the development.
Cassola took to Facebook to point out the irony of the fine stating “Robert Abela’s former business partner has been found guilty of building an illegal cage in the centre of Swieqi. He is thus being fined…€2 a day!”
“Poor lions, monkeys and crocodiles. They will now all die of hunger,” he sarcastically concluded.
Meanwhile, Swieqi Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace called out what looks to be double standards working in the favour of someone closely affiliated with top government officials.
“I challenge anyone who tries to add another floor and calls it a “cage” — let’s see if they’re charged €2 like this ‘god’ named Christian Borg,” he wrote.
Do you think this is a fair fine?
