WATCH: Pope Francis Praises Maltese People As ‘Good-Willed And Gentle’
Pope Francis returned to his weekly General Audience yesterday with a catechesis on the Acts of the Apostles, including St Paul’s journey to Malta.
In his return to his General Audience, the Pope discussed St Paul’s journey to Malta, noting how the Saint experienced a warm welcome by the Maltese people.
“The Maltese are good-willed, gentle and homely”
The Pope also told the story of how Paul was bitten by a viper but was unharmed and went on to heal many people on the island.
Just last week, Pope Francis presided over the final funeral rites of Maltese Cardinal Prospero Grech as he was laid to rest in Rome. Cardinal Grech was later brought to Malta for his final burial.
Today has, in fact, been designated as a Day of State Mourning in commemoration of Cardinal Grech and that all national flags will be flown at half-mast.
