Watch: Il-Bibi’s Legacy! Granddaughter Of Malta’s Jazz Pioneer Charms Judges With Radiohead Cover
The next contestant to make it through the Bootcamp phase of X Factor Malta was carrying a physical local legacy with her on stage… but she sure seems to have made her family proud!
30-year-old Mariana Caruana showed up in front of the judges with a photo of her grandparents, explaining how she comes from a very musical family which has always encouraged her to hone her singing skills after finishing up her education.
Mariana’s grandfather happens to be il-Bibi, known by many as a pioneer in Malta’s jazz scene. Along with her father – who got sick last year – Mariana’s grandfather inspired her to take the plunge and take part in the show.
And with an emotional and powerful rendition of Radiohead’s iconic Creep, Mariana definitely continued her grandfather’s legacy tonight.

Shifting comfortably from low verses to high-pitched choruses, Mariana’s performance was more than good enough to have the judges wanting to see more of her.
“She has a feel,” Ira Losco said of the contestant after she had received four Yeses from the judges and walked off stage.
“It shows that she’s musical,” Howard chimed in, with Amber also agreeing that Mariana could be a very promising addition to this season’s competition.
