Watch: ‘L-Aħħar Bidwi Waħdu Jibki’ – X Factor Malta Hopeful Rewrites Iconic Folk Song And Gets Standing Ovation

There isn’t one single Maltese person who hasn’t heard Sammy Bartolo’s iconic L-Aħħar Bidwi f’Wied il-Għasel… but even with so many unique covers out there, we’re willing to bet you haven’t heard this one yet.
During tonight’s hotly contested X Factor Malta Six Chair Challenge seeing which girls would make it to the Judges’ Houses, returning contestant Marija Bellia rewrote the quintessential Maltese song into a current retelling of life on the island… controversial developments, vanishing countryside and all.
And despite the initial piano moments, Bellia gave the traditional anthem a 21st century treatment when she stood up, grabbed the phone, and started straight up rapping. Oh, and she also mashed it with another iconic song, Viva Malta, just to make sure everyone would be up on their feet by the end.
And that’s exactly what happened, with Bellia getting a standing ovation and managing to nab one of the very desirable six chairs to secure her presence in the next phase.
