Watch: Leap Of Faith? Gozitan Teenage Missionary With No Singing Experience Secures Next Phase On X Factor Malta

An 18-year-old Gozitan student who regularly embarks on missionary work has made it through to the next phases of X Factor Malta… but will it be a case of a fruitful leap of faith for the judges?

With no prior singing experiences, Francesco Bonello – who’s from Xagħra and is currently studying restoration – was spurred on by a profound personal loss – the tragic loss of his friend Geordie to cancer.

That was in fact the last time Francesco had performed, as a tribute to his friend during a concert in aid of Puttinu Cares.

Francesco didn’t shy away from choosing a tough song, opting to perform Marco Mengoni’s Hola. But while the judges were a bit torn on his promise and talent, he ended up securing three yeses from Gianluca, Amber and Howard.

Ira still liked the teenager’s voice, but said she felt he might not be ready enough for the upcoming stages. “On the contrary, he’s one of the best voices we’ve had so far,” Howard replied.

Do you think Francesco has what it takes to make it far in this year’s X Factor Malta?
