Watch: Teenage Mariah Carey Superfan Splits Judges’ Decision But Steals X Factor Malta Spotlight
Tonight’s episode of X Factor Malta was off to an entertaining start thanks to Carl Bonnici, a 16-year-old Mariah Carey superfan who brought the star’s music and attitude to the stage.
Aspiring to be somewhat of an 80s diva himself – and being inspired by Malta’s very own Ira Losco after she released her album The Fire – Carl had the judges a bit torn when it came to their decision… and ended up splitting them into two Yeses and two Nos, not enough for him to get through to the Bootcamp stage. But he sure made the most of his audition time!

From the chemistry with judge Amber – who happens to, like him, be from Żabbar – to a cheeky to-and-fro with Howard Keith who just couldn’t get past the tone of his higher notes, Carl brought a smile to the judges’ panel… and his very young age, charismatic nature and eagerness to take on constructive criticism like a champ means Malta may not have seen the last of him. Not by a long shot.
“He’s one of those cases where he might just come back and surprise us,” Howard himself said after Carl had gone back offstage. And who knows – maybe that’s what lies ahead for this teenage diva-lover!
