A group of activists have teamed up together to form a new civil society platform to promote social justice, equality and better use of common resources.

The new platform, Il-Kollettiv, was launched by Wayne Flask, Matthew Borg, and Jeanette Borg at the Circolo Musicale Sta Caterina, in Żejtun.

Labour MEP Cyrus Engerer has also joined this new platform.

“We’ve held frequent discussions in the last two years with various groups and individuals, and these have helped us understand how activism can be more participative in the social and political realities of country,” said Jeanette Borg, an agri-environmental activist and the president of the new executive council.

We fully believe that the decisions that affect the people should be taken by the people and the communities. The tools of democracy should always be in the people’s hands. We encourage residents of Malta and Gozo, whatever their nationality, to take part in this collective action.”

Il-Kollettiv will seek to collaborate with local community groups and artists alike.

And while this new platform appears to have more than a few shades of Moviment Graffitti about it, Wayne Flask – an ex Graffitti activist – said there is a possibility that Il-Kollettiv could become a political party and contest the next general election, although nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
