First Turtle Nest Of 2022 Appears Overnight In Gozo’s Ramla l-Ħamra

Malta’s first turtle nest for 2022 has been spotted in the Gozitan beach of Ramla l-Ħamra, and an enthusiastic Facebook has come equipped with all the adorable pictures of those signifying tracks.
The soon-to-be baby turtles were spotted by Serena, a volunteer part of a team of committed animal-lovers patrolling beaches all across the island.
“Eggciting news today,” the rescue team quipped.
“After weeks of daily night patrols and morning checks by our wonderful and dedicated volunteers, this morning our volunteer Serena was the lucky one to find our first turtle nest for 2022 at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo.”
After the nest was located, coordinators from Nature Trust – FEE Malta and officials from ERA – Environment & Resources Authority inspected the area and subsequently confirmed the nest
“The area will be monitired 24/7 for the coming two months, by volunteers for Nature Trust in collaboration with ERA until hopefully we get to see the precious hatchlings emerging,” the NGO assured.
Meanwhile, patrols on other beaches will resume as nesting season is “not over yet”.
