“Thank you for being here and for covering the trial. Of course, it’s a big relief for us. we all think that this verdict is important for Malta and for journalists everywhere,” said Matthew Caruana Galizia as he addressed journalists outside court.

Caruana Galizia went on to say that “now we have to make sure that we finish what my mother started and ensure that there’s justice for the corruption that she revealed.”

Caruana Galizia’s family went on to say that they’ve listened to “many people speaking throughout the process over the last weeks but we cannot see Daphne and we cannot listen to her words anymore. All the dreams that she had were shattered the day she was murdered on 16th October 2017, when she was just 53 years of age.”

According to yesterday’s court reports, the jury’s verdict was as follows:

Adrian Agius was found guilty of complicity in Carmel Chircop’s murder in 2015 but his brother Robert Agius was found not guilty for this case.

However, Robert Agius was found guilty of complicity in the 2017 murder of Caruana Galizia.

George Degiorgio, who has already been found guilty of the murder of Caruana Galizia, has now also been found guilty of Chircop’s murder.

Robert Agius and Jamie Vella have also been found guilty of possessing dangerous explosives.

The next step is for Judge Edwina Grima to hand out their sentences.
