Maltese Man Accused Of Beating His Partner And Locking Her Up For Hours

A Maltese man has been accused of beating his partner before locking her up in their shared Żejtun home for hours, Times of Malta reported.
The assault allegedly occurred following an argument over a deleted Facebook message.
Tyler Camilleri appeared before the court earlier today and has been remanded in custody.
The fight allegedly broke out at 2am on Friday when Camilleri wanted to know the contents of a Facebook message that was received by his partner and deleted by the sender.
The victim, whose name was not revealed, tried to explain that the sender was a Facebook friend who shared a harmless message. However, the situation escalated and Camilleri allegedly beat the woman on her face and head – causing her to sustain slight injuries – and locked her up in the home they shared.
The woman was locked in the Żejtun residence for hours until she managed to contact her mother. She was eventually saved by her mother’s partner after he climbed over a wall to access the property.
Upon escaping the home, the woman was examined at Paola health centre where her partner showed up and told the security that he was her brother in an attempt to get to her. However, the mother told the officer that her daughter was an only child.
Then, a police report was filed.
Camilleri pleaded not guilty to the accusations which were: injuring his partner, holding her against her will, causing her to fear violence, breaking the conditions of a probation order, and being a recidivist.
The defence argued that the accused suffered a knife wound inflicted by the alleged victim. They further requested bail which was denied by Magistrate Gianella Camilleri Busuttil.
The prosecution will present its witnesses at the next sitting.
Inspector Audrey Micallef prosecuted while Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri were defence counsel.
