‘Decadence Now’: Pure Emotion With Quality Operatic Selection And Powerful Artworks
Shivers literally ran up my spine as Soprano Gillian Zammit’s voice warbled Tosti’s lament like a love-lorne lark. The whole audience was captivated with the sheer power of emotion released in the intimate atmosphere created in the salon at Palazzo De La Salle.
Tenor Raffaele Abete and pianist Lucia Micallef, together with Zammit raised the bar in operatic performance as they went through a well curated selection of classic sequences from compositions by Tosti, Fiorini and Puccini.
Stupendously woven together with the narration of salonièrre Denise Mulholland, this was the second Salon in the a series of three for this year’s edition of City of Art, Decadence. Now,
An ongoing exhibition featuring loaned artefacts from acclaimed European museums as well as four new exhibits by artists Luke Azzopardi, Maria Theuma, Andrew Borg Wirth, and Michael Zerafa will also grace the halls of the Malta Society of Arts throughout the month of May.
Following the success of another set from the salon recital series, you are invited to indulge in the final salon, l’Oasis où je rêve – Salon Recital.
This evening dedicated to songs from the French canon will feature music by Debussy, Hahn and Duparc which will be complemented by the final composition from Karl Fiorini’s 3-part song cycle specially commissioned by City of Art for this series.
This concert will be performed by soprano Gillian Zammit, accompanied by pianist and City of Art producer Lucia Micallef, with salonnière Maria Theuma.
