‘Stop Ignoring Them’: Metsola Calls For Solution To MCAST Issue

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has called on the government to “stop ignoring and find a solution” to the ongoing MUT and Education Ministry’s ongoing dispute which has left scores of students in uncertainty.
“Solidarity with the students and lecturers of MCAST. It is a great injustice that after months and years of study, the students in MCAST do not receive their marks, with the consequence that they can neither apply for a job nor continue advancing in their education,” Metsola wrote on Facebook.
“Meanwhile, the lecturers continue to be left in the dark about their conditions.”
“The government should stop ignoring them, but should find a solution. The students in our country deserve a better future, with the best teaching from educators in which a strong and serious investment is made,” she continued.
This comes after disgruntled students launched a petition urging for Prime Minister Robert Abela’s intervention in the frustrating situation that has left thousands of students in limbo.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, a nursing student explained how this is stopping her and her classmates from starting their careers, putting them at a disadvantage with University of Malta students and also depriving the country of these essential healthcare workers.
The dispute is ensuing over a collective agreement and the Malta Union of Teachers has issued directives until the situation is cleared up to its satisfaction.
