Student Activist Speaks To Robert Abela’s Customer Care After Putting Up Banners In Protest Against MUT Directives
Student activist and Swieqi Local Council candidate Jordan Galea Pace got the chance to speak to Prime Minister Robert Abela’s customer care after he hung up a banner that reads “Futur Mo**xi” on a sign outside of Castille as students’ frustrations pile up due to the ongoing MUT directives affecting MCAST.
“Abela’s security took me into Castille to speak to his customer care. When they see students wake up, they speed things up,” Galea Pace told Lovin Malta.
“For better education and to be heard do I need to print a poster and stick it to Valletta?”
Customer care told Galea Pace that they’ll pass on the case and will check it out. Meanwhile, the police outside wanted to take his details for using vulgar language.
“However I refused as the word mo**xi doesn’t mean anything it’s just an interpretation and as a student I had every right to protest without it being taken down.”
Galea Pace erected these posters all around Malta in protest both against the Malta Union of Teachers’ directives, and the Ministry of Education’s failure in reaching a resolution.
The union released directives that push educators to cancel exams, withhold marks from students, and leave third years with theses deadlines without supervisors who can help.
Explaining the motive behind this action, he said: ‘‘I put this poster on the door of the principal and the door of the Ministry of Education.’’ He continued by explaining that students are
crying in corridors and others are filled with doubt due to the directives against the students.
The use of vulgar language in the posters sparked controversy, but according to the student representative, it was necessary for authorities to take notice.
‘‘Remove the directives today.’’ Jordan wrote in an Instagram post, ‘‘Or else I will have to accelerate things so that every student has hope for a bright future, not a f**cked one.’’
