Roberta Metsola To Vye For Presidential Seat Against Spanish Contender Tomorrow
Roberta Metsola and Irene Montero have been named the main contenders for tomorrow’s presidential election at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Montero is a member of the leftist Podemos party and she previously served as the Minister of Equality in the Socialist Government of Spain from January 2020 to Novermber 2023.
Montero’s nomination was put forth and confirmed last minute by The Left political group at around 7.15pm today.
Besides being a politician, the 36-year-old is also a psychologist whose partner is Pablo Iglesias, a former MEP, Podemos co-founder, and presidential candidate in 2014 – the year Martin Schulz secured his second term in office.
Until recently, Metsola was the only nominee. The voting for the European Parliament’s next president for the coming two years will commence tomorrow morning at 10am and it can last until 5pm. Lovin Malta will be live from the Hemicycle reporting on the latest updates.
