This New Gastro Bar In Sliema Is A Dream For Food-Sharers
A new eatery has opened at the Sliema Ferries aiming to solve the biggest dilemma facing all restaurant-goers: how do you make sure you’re ordering the best dish on the table?
“I love going out to eat but it always annoys me that when the food arrives, my wife always has the better dish,” joked chef and restauranteur Chris Hammett at this week’s launch of Hammett’s Gastro Bar.
That’s what inspired the sharing menu offered by Hammett’s; a wide range of dishes – some big, some small – all designed to be shared. And with menu items like lampuki tacos, grilled octopus tentacles and the must-try Korean wraps – it’s great to have the license to try everything.
Besides offering lunch and dinner, Hammett’s also offers an amazing breakfast menu, featuring everything from a signature English breakfast to baked eggs (shakshouka) or pancakes, served everyday from 8am.
Hammett’s replaces the old Sliema favourite La Rive and has been converted to an up-market industrial chic restaurant glistening with copper, marble and zebrano wood textures throughout. You can also sit outdoors on high stools, to enjoy the views of Marsamxett harbour.
The restaurant was opened three months ago but it’s official launch happened this week.
The bar also has an array of craft beers, a selection of over 110 wines, flagship spirits and an
extensive gourmet cocktail list using fresh fruit, homemade syrups and infusions. The gin menu alone will have you trying a different gin & tonic twist every time you go. But if you want to try them all at once, you probably want to head there at 4pm for Stupid Hour and stay there at 5pm for Happy Hour.
In fact, do check the menus for prices before you go to avoid any nasty surprises. Remember, each dish is to be shared so for a large meal you’re going to probably want to order around three small dishes at about €10 each and another two larger dishes of around €14 each, which with drinks will return a bill of just over €40 per person on average.
Hammett’s Gastro Bar is the first venture between Chris Hammett and IBB Hotel Collection, a subsidiary of Malta based Von der Heyden Group, a Pan-European Real Estate investment company with its seal in Malta. IBB Hammetts will also operate the event space and restaurant of the 1565 Cugó Gran Macina in Senglea, which will receive its first hotel guests shortly. The restaurant is slated to open in January next year.
