New Spinola Supermarket Cooks Your Food While You Shop

The new Park Towers’ Supermarket in Spinola, St Julian’s, has only been open for a few days but already seems ready to rub shoulders with the major supermarket brands on the island.
It has all the features of a modern Maltese supermarket – including free parking, a fishmonger, vegan-friendly food and all the many varieties of noodles and wines you could ask for.
Yet it is also offering a unique concept to shoppers – allowing them to buy meat and fish and have it cooked on the spot for a small extra price.
This ‘eat while you shop’ concept has already been introduced by Greens’, which has a cafe in the middle of the restaurant and where people can buy fresh fish cooked on the spot.
However, Park Towers has taken this to the next level and has included a cordoned off section by the butcher and fishmonger where you can sit down and eat, essentially a mini-restaurant within the supermarket. This mini-restaurant also includes a salad and pasta buffet, with the menu changing everyday.
Other interesting features of the supermarket include a cafe serving hot drinks and pastries in the middle of the supermarket and a play area for kids with two Xboxes and the more traditional Lego.
Its customer service also appears to be top-notch, with its staff personally responding to people’s queries, suggestions and complaints on its Facebook page and agreeing to refund the parking tickets for those shoppers who hadn’t been informed they had to validate them at the customer care section.
