A Maltese teen who chose the wooden spoon during his quċċija has grabbed his destiny by the horns and is now working in an esteemed, one star Michelin restaurant in Ireland.

Maltese teen-chef Kieran Borg has been making serious waves at the Cliff House Hotel – plate by plate.

The 21-year-old had started cooking at a very young age – always helping his mum when cooking and never turning down an opportunity to put together a mouth-watering dish.

Kieran started studying the art of cooking at the Institute Of Tourism Studies (ITS) in Malta where he took his cooking skills to the next level.

Obtaining his first certificate and later on a diploma in the production and preparation of food, there was no doubt that Kieran was on the right track to achieving his dreams of becoming a chef.

As his last year at ITS came about, so did COVID-19, messing up Kieran’s plans of finishing his last study unit abroad.

In a recent interview with TVM, the chef stated that he despises when people use the pandemic as an excuse, so he therefore took matters into his own hands and started sending CVs abroad to possibly get employed.

”When people come and tell you, ‘well done, this is the best food I have ever tasted,’ you feel very satisfied because you would have started working at 10am and before 11pm you can’t leave the kitchen. So when someone comes to tell you this, it’s a very nice feeling,” Kieran said.
