Refreshing Cocktail Or Fruity Ice Lolly? This Maltese Gastro Bar’s New Invention Ditches Dilemmas And Delivers Both

‘Forever Young’ stops being just an overly-used term with no meaning when you find yourself desperately craving an ice lolly at 28.
Thankfully, that adult version of a summer refresher – the cocktail – also has copious amounts of alcohol to get you through all those feelings. Now, someone just went ahead and merged the two together. What a time to be alive.
Say hello to The Poptail

Is it a cocktail? Is it an ice lolly? Well, believe it or not, it’s actually both.
These glorious beauties are the brainchild of Sliema’s Hammett’s Gastro Bar, and they taste as good as they look (and sound). Made with fresh fruit in the form of diced ice-cubes, the Poptail has seen various iterations, and they’re all selling like hotcakes (even though they’re actually very cold).
“Malta’s summers call for all things ice, and that was our main inspiration in all this,” chief chef and owner Chris Hammett told Lovin Malta. “These frozen treats are perfect for the cocktail-loving gastronomers out there.”
There’s everything from prosecco and fresh peach to strawberry puree and Irish coffee flavours, but that really is the tip of alcoholic iceberg. Customers’ favourites, in fact, are the Watermelon Mojito, the Moscow Mule and the Strawberry Daiquiri.
