Gozo’s First Olympic-Sized Pool ‘Now Becoming A Reality’ As It Starts Being Filled Up With Water
A massive project on the sister island of around €16 million is nearing completion, with the island’s first Olympic-sized swimming pool now being slowly filled with water.
“So many promises were made for a number of years, and they all fizzled out into nothing,” Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri wrote yesterday, sharing two photos of the sprawling pool’s update. “So much criticism was made in the past months, so many doubts were raised on this massive sporting project in the heart of Victoria. Despite all that, we gave our word, and we kept our word.”
“Gozo’s biggest and best sporting project is becoming a reality,” Camilleri continued, saying if Malta expected the best results from its children, then they need to be given “the best facilities.”
“I look forward to the opening of this facility for all of us,” the minster finished.
Earlier this year, Camilleri had announced that the Aquatic and Sports Centre project has completed its first phase. Spanning around 5,000 square metres, the centre has been promised to host a number of facilities that will cater for gymnastics, basketball, badminton, squash, wall climbing, acrobatics, weightlifting, aerobics, yoga and martial arts.
