Joseph Micallef, father of three-year-old James, who tragically drowned on Saturday in Xagħra, shared a deeply moving message highlighting the importance of support for those with disabilities and autism.

Reflecting on the challenges and joys of raising his son, who was on the autism spectrum, he emphasised the need for facilities like Dar Arka in Gozo.

“Autism is a spectrum, not everyone is affected in the same way and with the same severity.  There are those who speak, and there are those who do not utter a word.”

“Our James never called me Papa`. His brother George is the same, I never heard him yell at me. Whoever is a parent of someone like these angels of ours, knows how much energy and patience you need,” Micallef added.

The grieving father announced that during the celebration of James’ life on Wednesday, a collection would be held for Fondazzjoni Arka, which runs Dar Arka in Għajnsielem, Gozo, providing services for people with autism.

For those unable to attend the funeral, Micallef added that donations can be made via bank transfer directly to Fondazzjoni Arka with the IBAN (BOV) MT31VALL22013000000040017808653.

Rest in peace, James
