On the significant occasion of International Women’s Day, Malta’s UN Ambassador Vanessa Frazier joined forces with Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, Dorothy Estrada, Professor Penny Andrews and Nayera Kohistani for a critical panel discussion regarding the alarming conditions women and girls face in Afghanistan.

This discussion focused on the united effort to bring international attention to gender apartheid, a grave issue that advocates are pushing to be recognised globally as a crime against humanity.

The event served not just as a platform for raising awareness but also highlighted the ongoing efforts at the United Nations to address and combat systemic gender discrimination.

“It was my immense honour to spend the morning of International Women’s Day with Malala where we held a panel discussion on the dire situation of women and girls in Afghanistan and our work at the UN to codify gender apartheid as a crime against humanity,” Frazier said on her social media.

During this panel, Malta contributed to discussions on accountability mechanisms to counter the gender apartheid that women and girls in Afghanistan continue to face.
