Malta’s First Ever Meme Competition Is Here To Fight ‘Fake News’

If you were looking for a way to monetise your memes, then look no further. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ has just set up Malta’s very first meme competition, and all meme-competitors must stick to the theme of the event: fake news.
Come one and come all with your dankest memes – as long as they say something smart about the major issue that is fake news.
“One of the things I come across often is that young people are a bit gullible and believe whatever they read and they do not look into the matter,” said Sarah Spiteri, a youth information officer with Aġenzija Żgħażagħ told Lovin Malta.
“They don’t certify what they are reading, so we wanted to have them produce a meme about fake news so that they can boggle their mind and come to terms with the repercussions of fake news, get creative and promote the idea of fake news by sharing their work,” she said.
You can fight the scourge of fake news by getting your meme game on. Create a meme portraying the effects of fake news and inform the public of the positive aspects of attaining the right news and information.
Your meme will be judged on how original it is, how insightful it is, how important the issue it addresses is, and – of course – how funny it is.
All entries must be sent in by 27th April.
Participants must be between the ages of 13 – 30 years of age and can send their original memes in to [email protected] along with name and surname of participant. The submitter will receive email communication regarding the submitted meme status (Approved/Rejected). If the meme is offensive/lewd/obscene or violates the rules and/or terms of service, it will be rejected. The winner will receive a 25 Euro voucher from SunLab Malta.
