Calling All Design Buffs: Architecture Alive Is Malta’s Newest Forum For You
From the humble hajt tas-sejjieh to the elegant and iconic gallarija, Malta’s certainly got its share of OTT architecture and design elements that really deserve some TLC. So what better space to sit down for a chat about the marvels of architectural engineering locally and beyond than in a dedicated space for local architects and design enthusiasts?

Enter Architecture Alive, a new initiative by local architectural and urban design firm studjurban, which consists of a series of planned bimonthly talks. Each session is aimed at fostering discussion between professionals and anyone interested in the architecture sphere, and hopes to bring in experts from all across the globe to share in their knowledge and expand learning opportunities.

The first event, hosted last month on October 6th at the Maritime Museum, featured one of Austria’s foremost architects Peter Lorenz, delivering a presentation entitled Renaissance of Urbanity – the Responsibility of the Architect.
The next event, slated to take this Saturday at the National Museum of Archaeology’s Gran Salon in Valletta, will feature none other than Richard Murphy, director for Richard Murphy Architects Limited in Edinburgh and authority on Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa. Helming a company with an unprecedented 22 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) award wins, Murphy has overseen projects of every nature including residential, educational and health buildings, offices and hotels, master-planning, galleries, theatres and two British Embassies.
Murphy’s talk, Architecture and its time and place, will continue the proposed Architecture Alive trend with keynote speakers additionally highlighting their main achievements to date, discuss design challenges and share personal narratives, using their key projects as a visual basis.
Architecture Alive is hosted by studjurban and is supported by the Planning Authority, Kamra tal-Periti, Places:Design & Living magazine, and Marsovin. The next talk, Architecture and its time and place, will take place this Saturday November 24th at 19:00 at the National Museum of Archaeology’s Gran Salon in Valletta.
