Local Artist Paints Mural On Sliema Coast Depicting ‘Loss Of Innocence’ In Palestinian Children
If you’ve been around the coast of Sliema in the past month, this mural might’ve caught your eye, but do you know the deeper meaning behind it?
Renowned local artist and muralist, James Micallef Grimaud was the man behind the mural, as well as many others scattered around the island, like the 2B Gallery in St. Julian’s or the Giraffe Crane of the Valletta dry docks.
His latest artistic venture birthed an eery scene depicting a mountain of teddy bears, riddled with bleeding holes, atop of which stand two figures, next to the Palestinian flag, with a backdrop of Middle-eastern buildings up in flames.
Upon closer inspection, one can easily assume the intrinsic meaning behind the artwork, an assumption which can be confirmed by Micallef Grimaud himself:
“The mural portrays the suffering of helpless Palestinian children, victims of war and the loss of their innocence as kids” the artist said in a Facebook post announcing his work.
The blood seeping from the plushes seem to trickle down onto the rocks below the mural, trailing outwards, eery sight for an eery truth.
