Maltese Dancer Signed To One Of The Biggest Talent Agencies In LA
Maltese dancer Dee Dee Clark has been signed to McDonald/Selznick Associates (MSA) which is considered to be one of the biggest talent agencies in Los Angeles, a city known for creating stars.
“MSA has earned its status as the global leader in its field whose clients have been nominated for and won multiple Tony, Emmy, and MTV awards,” the agency’s website impressively reads.
MSA is considered to be the “industry’s pioneering dance agency. In fact, it provided talent for major celebrities like Lady Gaga, Megan Thee Stallion, Usher, Carrie Underwood and Meghan Trainer.
To add on to its distinguished reputation, MSA is the only agency in the world to represent the most acclaimed directors for large scale entertainment as well as executive creative producers of some of the biggest television shows worldwide, according to the agency’s website.
Dancing in LA has always been a dream for DeeDee. However, when she finally started living between the entertainment capital of the world and Malta, she soon had to move back due to restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
“I always dreamed of dancing in LA. It’s the best place to be for Jazz Funk/Commercial and Hip Hop and ever since I was 16, I had this itch to learn from the people that were at the highest level as I felt they could help me develop and refine my skills,” DeeDee told Lovin Malta.
“In 2018, I connected with Dana Alexa and from the get-go, it felt like I found my long-lost sister. She reassured me that LA wasn’t as scary as social media makes it out to be and that I should give myself the opportunity to experience it, even if it was just for a few weeks.”
She explained that having Alexa there was a comfort point and eventually led her to take the jump and go to LA in 2019.
“Since then, I’ve been coming and going from Malta to LA, and vice versa but when COVID hit, I remained in Malta teaching at Alison White Dance Studio, waiting for the next opportunity to go back to training.”
Once she started getting used to LA, DeeDee sent over her resume, showreel and headshots to MSA and her submission had the backing of Barry Lather – a director/choreographer who has worked for and with the likes of Usher, Rihanna and Carrie Underwood.
He’s also been working with MSA for over 30 years so his word is highly valuable.
Soon after she sent everything in, the agency emailed her, set up a zoom call and offered her a contract minutes after they hung up.
She’s been signed with the agency for a month.
DeeDee has now started up the visa process to really solidify her new life in LA.
“There are many things I like about LA but I’d have to say that my favourite thing about the city is the dancing and the learning.”
“The instructors are incredible, they make me push my limits both physically and mentally. I’ve also had the opportunity to assist Hamilton Evans, Dana Alexa and Hero Thomas at Millennium Dance Complex and I have to say that those sessions taught me the most.”
However, a newly acquired knowledge and fiercely reinforced passion for dance weren’t the only thing that came out of LA for the dancer.
DeeDee opened up about finding love with her boyfriend who, as an actor on Netflix, shares a similar talent and appreciation for the entertainment industry.
“Alongside dancing at the top of my list, there’s definitely my boyfriend. He’s an American actor who I met here in LA. He’s super supportive, always pushes me to follow my dreams and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
“Now, I’m just hoping my visa gets approved so I can continue chasing my dream!”
DeeDee also hinted at some big projects in the pipeline, so go follow her on @deedee.clarkk on Instagram to stay updated with her journey.
