Stephanie Borg is a designer brand founded in 2008. Inspired by Maltese culture and heritage, the artist & surface pattern designer has created and developed over eight collections with over 450 products.
Borg is a trendsetter in the field and was one of the first to bring local heritage into our everyday life.
“Thank you Arts Council Malta for the Best Creative Enterprise Award! Honoured and thrilled with the recognition,” Borg said in a social media post.
“Thank you to all those who have supported me in one way or another throughout this journey, with special thanks to my Manager Joanna Micallef Farrugia and my life partner,” she wrote.
“I dedicate this award to my late mother – when I finished 6th Form and wanted to get into the graphic design field, I was encountering many challenges, but she pushed me to follow my calling, despite having no clue of what this career choice meant bless her!” she said.
Borg is renowned for her trend-setting influences on the development of the local market on Maltese tile patterns, Maltese doors and wrought iron designs.
The vibrant and classy product line features categories such as homeware and decor, soft interiors, wall art, tableware, desk ware, fashion textiles, garden furniture, accessories and speciality coffee.
When Stephanie started her collection over 14 years ago, the majority of renovations in homes were moving away from them on a wave of modernisation and Stephanie was collecting old Maltese pattern tile from construction skips.
The brand helped the economic sector it operates in and has developed the sector from the very beginning.
It generated awareness towards the dying crafts that gained more awareness and exposure; it enticed other designers to create their own brands and merchandise; it made locals appreciate local and buy more local; cement tile-making workshops reopened and cement tiles were once again in demand.
