Launching this programme while celebrating an exciting new beginning at MCAST, the season will open with L-Għarusa – Ġużè Diacono’s well-esteemed piece of work.

Starring Marceline Galea, the events of L-Għarusa will be staged at the Knight’s Armoury in Birgu. Apart from helping to kick start the Autumn season on a strong note, this piece also serves as a commemoration of Diacono’s 20th anniversary of his passing and what would have been his 110th birthday.

Moving on to November, Il-Fidwa Tal-Bdiewa, created through a collaboration between The New Victorians, FCN, and Clare Azzopardi, is set to be a piece that awakens all of your senses.

Taking a page from Sette, The New Victorians are known for their audio-theatrical way of producing. Il-Fidwa Tal-Bdiewa should be a riveting multidisciplinary piece that is set to live music and performed by an ensemble of artists which include Jacob Piccinino, Matthias Camilleri, and Lee-N Abela, among others.

Even the setting of Il-Fidwa Tal-Bdiewa is unique as the production will be held at the Ximenes Redoubt in Naxxar.

Simon Spiteri and Du’ Theatre are back again with Spiteri’s latest piece – Lupu/Nagħġa.

This piece has been in the rehearsal and development period for months and it is slowly flourishing into a fully-fledged production that will be performed at the Valletta Campus Theatre this coming January.

Commissioned by the European Theatre Convention as part of the Pipelines project, this show promises to intrigue and spark your curiosity like a flickering light in the blackest of nights.

The well-loved and super-fun Trikki Trakki Youth Theatre Festival also returns for its 6th year running under the helm of Festival Director Antonella Axisa at MSpace.

Last but not least, Teatru Malta is in the process of moving its operations to the MCAST Paola campus.

Priding itself in being the country’s leading vocational education and training institution; MCAST is fuelled by a similar multidisciplinary ethos that matches that of the national theatre company

This means that within MCAST grounds, Teatru Malta can continue evolving, and offer even more opportunities not just to their collaborating artists but to MCAST students as well.

This relationship is as symbiotic as they come. Since Teatru Malta is now able to set up shop on the Paola campus and make use of MCAST’s well-equipped rehearsal rooms and theatre, the team will bring inspired young students on board their ever-developing projects.

What will these students be doing? Learning of course, and while doing so contributing to the theatre ecosystem one production at a time.

Students will be given the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working with local experts in the field of theatre, ranging from set building, costume design, light design and much more.

The possibilities are truly endless, and the future is looking bright. Will you be joining? To have a look at the full programme of events and keep up to date on what Teatru Malta is doing, head on over to their website
