We all have those couple of TV series we grew up watching which defined our childhood and get us a little emotional whenever we rewatch a snippet. But for Maltese personality Eileen Montesin, all of that came rushing back when she rewatched one of her own shows, and the one that started it all for most of her fans.

“We ended up crying,” Montesin told her thousands of followers on Instagram last night after finishing a binge-rewatch of Dejjem Tiegħek Becky with her granddaughter Nina. “She told me it was so emotional.”

But while the nostalgic feels for the now-16-year-old show must’ve definitely been very real, Montesin’s rewatch this time round held an even more emotional meaning; the memory of her late mentor, collaborator and friend George Micallef.

A beloved veteran Maltese actor who entertained thousands over the years, 76-year-old George Micallef passed away earlier this year, shocking many fans nationwide and even inspiring an emotional Xarabank feature.

Having starred in various popular shows like Jessie u Bessie and Fredu L-Fra, Micallef worked with pretty much everyone in Malta’s drama and TV scene… and Eileen Montesin was definitely no exception.

“George and I go way back, to when I was just 16 years old,” Montesin had said in a televised tribute to Micallef on her Family Affair. “He was one of the first people to give me a chance at a life on the stage.”

Amidst his many roles, in fact, George Micallef had even starred in Dejjem Tiegħek Becky as Wiġi… and it was this role that came back to life last night during Montesin’s rewatching.

“George and I worked very well together, especially on Becky,” Eileen told her friends and followers last night. “The part of Wiġi just suited him perfectly, and today, the episode truly touched our hearts.”

The pair went on to work on a number of series together, with George Micallef ending up playing the part of Eileen Montesin’s father in the series KC.

“May God grant George Micallef eternal rest,” a still emotional Eileen finished, closing off with, “We miss you George.”
