Alexia Tabone, a 24-year-old nurse, has officially been chosen as Malta’s representative at next year’s Miss Earth beauty pageant.

The lengthy Miss Malta contest put models through their paces with a series of competitions, some of which were eye-raising to say the least.

Alexia, who was representing Tarxien, was crowned winner this afternoon, with Nicole Agius (Miss Attard) coming second and Yaz Abughara (Qawra) finishing third.

Clearly emotional, Alexia used her victory speech to thank her colleagues, the producers, the fellow contestants and her family, in particular her late uncle and grandfather.

She succeeds Yanika Azzopardi as Miss Malta and will represent the island nation in the Philippines next year.
