I’ve recently dedicated my life to living like a Maltese influencer. I don’t really influence anyone, but I’ve broken down the characteristics of local influencers and celebs into an art.
I’ve also broken down each of them into easy starter packs, so you can live out your dreams of becoming the second Sarah Zerafa or Ben Camille. Because you know; we need another one.
1. Ira Losco
Arguably (and by ‘arguably’ I mean ‘definitely’) the most influential celebrity on the island, because she’s been around for ages and we’ve watched her grow from a rebellious rocker to seductive pop star as the years went by.
The Ira Losco starter pack includes a questionable haircut from your past, a sexy chef husband, iconic boobies, and an angry audience member.
BONUS: Happy crying whenever someone can sing kind of well.
2. The New Victorians
Singing-sister duo Philippa and Bettina Cassar are well known for their powerful vocals and quirky personalities. They write their own music and create their own theatre, and also come with a super suave violinist in the form of Sean Borg.
The New Victorians Starter pack includes an outfit by Carla Grima, holding your ear while singing, being sisters, and a red Nord stage keyboard.
3. Ben Camille
A heartthrob, an actor and a daddy in the truest meaning of the word, Ben Camille is a staple in the Maltese influencer scene. From stealing hearts on the TV screen to giving as all baby envy, he truly is a keeper.
The Ben Camille starter pack includes momager Carina Camilleri, a polo shirt, a cute baby and a questionable tattoo on your lower abdomen.
BONUS: Two big furry doggos.
4. Sarah Zerafa
The influencer of all influencers. The fashionista to end all times. The face of all our fancy takeaway cravings. Sarah Zerafa is the person behind everyone’s Instagram dreams.
The Sarah Zerafa starter pack includes bubblegum pink hair, a newsboy hat, the Time to Eat app and a big ol’ doggo.
BONUS: A super supportive mummy-photographer.
5. Ray Mercieca
X Factor Malta judge, eternal rocker and fashion pioneer. There’s not much more to say about Mr Mercieca TBH.
The Ray Mercieca starter pack includes being an old rocker, a fedora, a British accent and sunglasses.
BONUS: Sometimes forgetting you’re supposed to be British and speaking in a Maltese accent.
6. Stella Cini
Malta’s braid queen, Stella is a connoisseur of all things hair and an absolute YouTube queen. Not only is she a qualified hairdresser, but she’s also partial to a wig or two. And I blame her for unintentionally convincing me to bleach my hair again last month.
The Stella Cini starter pack includes at least one ink wig, a YouTube account, being a hairdresser and a regionally vague accent.
BONUS: A hot British boyfriend with a Land Rover.
7. Carina Camilleri
She’s part of the Ben Camille starter pack, but she definitely deserves her own pack. She’s one of Malta’s premiere stylists and the ultimate Fun Mum™.
The Carina Camileri starter pack includes a large doberman, massive sunglasses, being Malta’s Kris Jenner and Ben Camille.
BONUS: A gay best friend.
8. Grazielle Camilleri
Grazielle is slightly underrated – not many people know who she is. But those who do know her know that she is 100% a national treasure. From spreading love and light across the island to impressing with her dance moves, more people need to know about Grazielle.
The Grazielle Camilleri starter pack includes healing crystals, being Malta’s J-Lo, singing loudly and Egypt.
BONUS: A jazz cover of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor.
9. Luke Chappell
Malta’s edgy baby of pop, Luke is an up-and-coming artist on the local music scene after stealing a bunch of hearts on the first season of X Factor Malta. He might just be 15 years old, but Luke Chappell is definitely on the way to greatness.
The Luke Chappell starter pack includes being a baby, depression memes, being edgy and that rad hand sign.
BONUS: Telling the island you’re in a complicated relationship at the age of 15 on national TV.
