After last night’s heavy rainfall, Malta’s roads weren’t exactly in peak condition for biking this morning.
However, that didn’t stop hundreds of bikers from gathering in force for a charity ride in aid of the Blue Light Foundation, which was set up by by policeman Simon Schembri after he lost an arm in a brutal hit-and-run.
Today’s bike ride was the Foundation’s first formal event since launching earlier this year to provide psychological and financial help to first responders injured on the line of duty.
It commenced at around 9am outside the police headquarters and concluded at the Montekristo Estates, where information, entertainment and food stands were erected to provide an ideal setting for a family outing.
The event was organised by the Blue Beacon Bikers, a group of police bikers, and was also intended to raise awareness on road safety.
