Revitalising Gudja: Ġnien Iż-Żgħażagħ, A Green Lung For Residents
A remarkable transformation of an abandoned area in Gudja has emerged as a vibrant open space for the community.
Covering an impressive 1,100 square metres, Ġnien Iż-Żgħażagħ has been meticulously designed to provide Gudja residents with a space to enjoy.
This newly created recreational zone is a testament to accessibility and inclusivity. Sustainable picnic benches, thoughtfully crafted from eco-friendly materials, have been installed, ensuring that everyone, including wheelchair users, can enjoy the space.
Furthermore, premium paving has been implemented, prioritising safety without compromising on quality.
One remarkable feature of the garden is the use of geogrid, a ground-stabilising material that seamlessly blends accessibility with the preservation of the area’s natural elements. This ensures that visitors can traverse the space while admiring and respecting the land’s intrinsic beauty.
During her visit to the garden, Minister for the Environment, Miriam Dalli, accompanied by Steve Ellul, CEO of Project Green, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the workers who have made this project a reality. Their dedication and commitment to sustainability have shaped a thriving and inclusive oasis for the community to enjoy.
“Ġnien Iż-Żgħażagħ is yet another testament to our government’s unwavering commitment to create and regenerate open spaces within close proximity to residents’ homes. These spaces greatly enhance the quality of life for our residents, providing a safe and nurturing environment for our younger generation to play and learn,” Dalli said.
She urged the public to utilise these open spaces responsibly and to show respect for the designated areas.
Ellul highlighted the significant impact of this garden on approximately 3,000 Gudja residents, who now have a breathtaking open space merely minutes away from their homes. He emphasised that this regeneration project has also introduced more trees, purifying the air for a community that endures countless car journeys daily.
Such holistic projects exemplify the collective consideration of the people and the surrounding environment.
