BeeSavers Launch Crowdfund To Relocate Mosta Trees Threatened By Construction Death
Local environmental NGO BeeSavers Malta has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign in order to gather funds for the relocation of trees threatened by construction.
After a successful relocation of trees from a construction site in Birkirkara, the group, which is originally focused on bee keeping, is ready to save another group of mature trees.
This particular case involves a future site in Mosta currently housing a total of eight mature Citrus trees and two Japanese Loquat trees (Naspli). They are mature trees, approx 30 years old each.
“We are committed not to let a single tree die!” the BeeSavers said in the crowdfund.
The NGO is in need of your help now – as demolition is set to happen in August, after it was delayed by a couple of months.
“Tree relocation is not easy or cheap! You need cranes, hi-up, excavators, transport, water carriers and a lot of labor. This excludes maintenance for the years to come to keep the trees alive.”
“Fortunately we have the land available to fit in these trees and are teaming up with Garland who have a lot of experience in successfully moving trees in any time of the year.”
“If we manage to save them we would be saving over 200 years of natural evolution and carbon sequestration. These will be relocated to a safe ODZ space and maintained until self sufficiency (three to four years).”
“Funds requested are the bare minimum to make this relocation possible. Although we are a very small NGO without much funds, we have many years of track record of many practical activities in bee and nature conservation as evidenced by our facebook page.”
