Cockroach Season Is Fast Approaching, So Here’s 13 Ways To Roachproof Your Maltese Home

As Malta becomes overpopulated and over-constructed, the island is becoming more and more attractive to one of the most hated creatures on earth: cockroaches.
There are over 4,000 different species of roach worldwide, and 12 of them can be found locally. Of those 12, four of them are considered pests – the others are thought of more as casual house intruders by experts.
Cockroaches are pretty much the clean-up crew of the natural world. They have an uncanny ability to find any and all manner of decaying and putrid materials. Some species are attracted by warmth, darkness, spoiling food and standing water, while others were probably brought in when they caught a ride in on a carton box.
Either way, there are a number of things you can do to massively prevent these bugs from entering your home.
1. Keep your home clean
2. Avoid leaving uncovered food out in the open
3. Don’t leave dirty wet pots in the sink
4. Empty your bin every day
5. Ensure your bin lid fits securely
6. Use insect screens as a way for ventilation
7. Insulate pipes to prevent condensation under kitchen units, under all doors leading to the outside, any A/C pipes, and around the toilet
8. Regularly clean any dark areas in your home such as behind cupboards
9. Keep your bin clean and empty regularly
10. Keep unused areas tidy and avoid a build up of debris
11. Eliminate all sources of moisture/water
12. Take action at the first signs of infestation and stay vigilant
13. Consider calling a professional pest controller to eliminate the creatures
