Gozitan construction mogul Said Construction currently owes the state almost €30,000 in outstanding fines for illegal dumping occurring between Nadur and Għajnsielem.

Despite a daily fine according to the enforcement notice which was issued by the Planning Authority, Said Construction has persisted with the illegal dumping of construction waste and using the field as storage for construction machinery.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, the PA confirmed that as per the enforcement notice EC 00054/21, a daily fine of €50 is due while the dumping persists. The daily fine came into effect on 1st June 2021, well over two years ago.

“The total daily fine due amounts to €29,690. This amount is still being incurred and is outstanding,” the Planning Authority told Lovin Malta.

“The Authority reserves to take further action with regard to the collection of the fine.”

Lovin Malta had previously reported about this ordeal back in February 2022, after a truck belonging to the company was spotted depositing construction waste in the area beneath Ta’ Kenuna Tower, Ta’ Bordin.

According to the company’s social media page, Peter Paul Said is one of the owners of Said Construction, along with another brother Josef Said.

However, Said Construction Ltd. was struck off the business registry in 2006, making it difficult to ascertain true ownership.

Even though Said is the owner of the field according to the enforcement notice, which is listed as an agricultural field in the Local Plans and houses some olive trees, the infringement listed by the Planning Authority (PA) is that of a change of use.

The enforcement notice details that Said is being fined on the basis of changing the purpose of the agricultural field to the “storage of machinery and construction material, parking of heavy vehicles, and dumping and storage of construction material”.

Moreover, Peter Paul Said is the brother of Nationalist MP Chris Said and Nadur Mayor Edward Said.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, Chris Said reiterated that “anyone who breaks the law should have action taken against them, regardless of who they are”. Meanwhile, Edward Said could not be reached.
