As nature presented itself with various obstacles, 70 swimmers completed the Gozo-Malta 6km channel swim as part of Malta’s first-ever Ocean Festival.

The Ocean Festival was organised by ultra-endurance record-breaking swimmer and Olympian Neil Agius, where a large group of his students took on the great challenge following months of training.

“The event had it all wind, waves, swell and lots of jellyfish. I’m proud of each participant who pushed through their limits to make it to the finish line. Exactly what the Ocean Festival is all about,” Neil Agius told Lovin Malta.

“From early in the morning the energy and vibe were amazing and that didn’t stop until the end of the event,” he said.

“We are looking forward to the next one happening end of August with another iconic route which will involve Filfla,” he hinted.

The purpose of the Ocean Festival is to explore the pristine waters and seascapes of Malta & Gozo by embarking on unique swimming challenges, celebrating and protecting our sea.

“Together, we will bring a community of like-minded people who motivate each other to push past their limits to reach peak performance levels of fitness and wellbeing, while also learning to love and protect our Sea,” the Ocean Festival description reads.

The first Ocean Festival was all about the infamous 6km channel swim from Gozo to Malta, aiming to combine nature, sport and community into one, a first for the Maltese islands.
