Watch: Matt Blxck’s Banana-Eating Song Is Malta’s Most Viewed Eurovision Entry By Far
Now that all of Malta’s Eurovision 2024 entries released over the weekend, one particularly fruity entry has taken an early lead.
Matt Blxck’s Banana, a funny novelty act that features Matt eating a banana on stage, has been viewed over 11,000 times on YouTube so far.
It is a massive viewership lead over the others.
Sirena, a song by new Maltese girl group Erba’, is currently second with 4,900 views, while Ryan Hili’s Karma is a close third with 4,300. Greta Tude’s Topic (Bla Bla Bla) (3,900) and Denise’s Mara (3,300) make up the remaining top five.
Of course, YouTube viewership isn’t everything. Brooke’s Checkmate was the most viewed song last year but ended up finishing a disappointing fifth.
However, the numbers will undoubtedly be a shot in the arm for Matt Blxck, who finished third last year.
The big question is whether the Maltese public is ready to send a ‘joke song’ to the Eurovision, a competition we are renowned for taking extremely seriously.
This year’s format is different than usual. Four semi-finals have already been held to determine which 12 acts will qualify for the grand final.
The final, which will be held in January, won’t be a live show but will rather feature pre-recorded performances and music videos. The public and a jury will get to vote on which song will represent Malta in Malmö next year.
Should Matt Blxck represent Malta at the Eurovision next year?
