Pro-Life Maltese NGO Launches Seven New Flatlets For Women And Children
Leading pro-life NGO Life Network Foundation has announced the acquisition of seven new residential flatlets which will be refurbished for use by women and children.
Renovations are already underway, and LNF hopes to welcome their first residents in May 2023.
The intent is for these living spaces to gently transition mothers and children who lived at Dar Tgħanniqa ta’ Omm in Mosta towards “completely independent living.”
According to Christie Zammit, Administrative Officer of Dar Tgħanniqa ta’ Omm, this space will “give mothers and their children the best chance of a strong and independent living.”
Pro-choice advocates might argue that one aspect of independent living could be a right to abortion.
However, Life Network Foundation is on a mission to “promote and defend the legitimate rights and dignity of every human being from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death” and provides aid to pregnant women who are considering getting an abortion for financial reasons, as well as to new mothers.
Although explicitly opposed to abortion, LNF also provides “post-abortion support” for those who have made the decision to terminate unwanted or dangerous pregnancies. Despite this, their mission is partially predicated upon “providing training and support for pro-life activists” as well as “educational programmes targeting all levels of society.”
This work is complemented by the organisation’s efforts to create spaces such as the announced apartments.
Once completed, these flatlets will allow residents to stay for up to three years. LNF hopes that the spaces will allow the organisation to support women through continued education or towards attaining full-time employment.
Chairman of the Life Network Foundation, Miriam Sciberras, asserted that “Life Network is committed to providing women and children with the resources they need to succeed, and these new flatlets are an important step towards empowering women and helping them achieve independence.”
Life Network Foundation is on a fundraising drive, until Sunday 22nd January, to finance its work in support, education and advocacy.
