New Instagram Account Shows A Side Of Malta You’ve Never Seen Before (And You’ll Never Get To See)
Sometimes, it’s easy to forget how many beautiful spots lie in the tiny Maltese islands. Just over 300 square kilometres, Malta and Gozo have been the subject of scores of gorgeous shots. And if there’s a gorgeous shot to be shared, you can rest assured it’ll make it onto Instagram. A new Instagram account promises to share some stunning shots from Malta, but we can’t help but feel that something’s a little off.
Next Stop Malta first appeared on Instagram this March. The page’s first upload weirdly showed two dogs embracing over what looked like the Grand Canyon. While some people might’ve not thought too much about this slightly weird upload, it turns out it was merely setting the stage for what’s to come.
At the time of publishing, Next Stop Malta has 10 uploads, posting semi-regularly (at certain instances one per day). But while the lengthy captions tell a story of the beloved Mediterranean archipelago, the photos tell a different story altogether.
1. San Anton Palace
“The President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, lives in the highest tower and the rest of the castle is occupied by her administrative staff and her servants,” the photo’s accompanying photo reads.
“Every Sunday, the President waves to the masses visiting the castle at 16:23, in memory of the year San Anton Palace formerly expanded into a palace.”
Sounds right.
2. Comino (2050?)
“It is amazing how nature shaped this beautiful natural island and many people say the island of Comino resembles a palm tree,” the page says. Well, if Comino had to take that form naturally, then yes, it would be amazing.
Then again, could we be headed to a future where tiny Comino looks like that?
3. Portomaso Tower
You’ve heard of all the high rises which are set to dominate Malta’s skyline in the coming years, but the real OG will always be Portomaso Tower. You know, the Portomaso Twin Towers, just in front of that palm tree avenue.
4. The new Kappara junction looks great
“The latest traffic project that was completed in Malta”?
Totally.
5. Buskett is getting a little out of hand
One of the only proper woodland areas in Malta was always a green haven for picnics and walks, but judging by this photo uploaded on the second of April, shit has gone all post-apocalyptic since the last time we’ve been.
6. The highest point in Malta
With an elevation of 253 metres, Dingli Cliffs’ Ta’ Dmejrek is the highest point in all of Malta.
It’s apparently so high that it’s snow-capped peak attracts very weird cloud formations.
“The enigmatic mountain is said to have sacred powers,” NextStopMalta explained. “The legend says that you will have one year of luck if you lay down a piece of ftira, the local Maltese bread, at the mountains foot. As a result, almost all Maltese bakeries are located near Ta’ Dmejrek.”
Now we’re stuck here wishing it was all true.
7. Is Paceville Malta’s Vegas?
Well, if you take NextStopMalta’s word, then yes, it literally is Vegas.
“If you feel unlucky you can visit shows, theatres, zoos, aquariums, nightclubs etc. The things you can do in Paceville are limitless!”
Paceville National Zoo you say?
8. Golden Bay
Malta has gorgeous beaches with crystal blue seas.
We’re quite undefeated when it comes to Mediterranean beauty, but even with an island like the one we have, that photo looks a tad unrealistic.
9. Gozo-Malta tunnel? What Gozo-Malta tunnel?
“Until very recently, you could only go by boat to Gozo, but an EU funded bridge connected the islands in late 2017. Hence, the access to Gozo is now much higher.”
Forget the proposed channel tunnel guys; we apparently already got a solution last year. God bless The Golden Gozo Gate Bridge.
