Malta experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event this week – no, not that record-breaking medicane that literally destroyed restaurants, kiosks, clubs and fish farms over the weekend, but the heralding of Malta’s new favourite compliment.
Dnegel is here, and it isn’t going away anytime soon, with companies co-opting the word in their advertisements, an actual Xarabank slot dedicated to it and a national consensus that last weekend’s storm should be named Medicane Dnegel.
However, there has not been consensus on one very important thing: how to pronounce the actual word
