The University of Malta’s recently-elected rector, Alfred Vella, made headlines this week. Not for anything he’s done yet, but for what he’s going to be earning. Vella has become on of Malta’s highest-paid professionals in the public sector, owing to his €150,000 annual salary as university rector.
