St Paul’s Bay Sees Over 10,000 More Foreign Residents Than Maltese

New figures show that St Paul’s Bay now has significantly more foreign residents than Maltese.
Minister Clyde Caruana shared the information in Parliament following a question by PN Shadow Minister Graziella Galea, confirming that the locality has over 10,000 more foreigners than Maltese residents.
According to the NSO 2024 data, there are 15,795 foreign men and 9,449 foreign women living in St Paul’s Bay. The number of Maltese residents is almost evenly split between men (7,454) and women (7,506), bringing the total Maltese population to 14,960. This means there are 25,244 foreigners in the area, 10,284 more than the Maltese population.
A similar situation is reported in Sliema, where in 2024 the foreign population was 12,446, compared to 10,284 Maltese residents.
The data also reflects a wider trend in Malta, with almost one in three residents being foreign, according to Eurostat figures updated at the start of last year, showing 173,781 foreign residents, accounting for 30.8% of Malta’s population.
With foreigners outnumbering Maltese in St Paul’s Bay, what do you think this means for the community?
