A Maltese man enjoying a jet-ski ride near Filfla just off ?urrieq had a bit of a surprise when he saw a fin popping out of the water nearby. On closer inspection, the fin turned out to belong to a shark.

“I’m no marine expert, but that looks like a shark to me,” Elian Mallia, the man who posted the video to Facebook, said.

However, the shark was pretty chill

In the video, the shark does not appear to be aggressive, and commentators have said there’s a high probability that it is a blue shark. Blue sharks are not usually dangerous to humans, with biologist Alan Deidun telling The Time there is no cause for alarm as they are “harmless”.

Blue sharks are not uncommon in the Mediterranean – but coming across any type of shark midway through a casual jet-ski ride is still enough to shock most people.
