Beloved 90s ambient dub techno sound system The Orb is set to headline Malta’s newest festival, Boomerang, at the Ta’ Qali national park this May.

The Orb pioneered the genre of ambient music with their seminal UFOrb album, introducing dub beats into a tranquil soundscape. The British electronic music duo formed in 1988, has released over 25 albums, and has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry.

Other featured artists include the UK’s legendary Ozric Tentacles, who are renowned for their psychedelic and progressive rock music, Germany’s Thomas Melchior, one of the pioneers of Minimal Techno, and Prince Fatty & Horseman from the UK, who are famous for their Reggae and Dub music.

France’s Weeding Dub, known for their dub, steppa, and digital roots music, and Germany’s Just Emma from Germany, known for their deep and melodic techno sound, will also perform.

They will be joined at Boomerang Festival by a stellar line-up of local and overseas talent with an alternative slant, with a total of 40 artists from nine different nationalities.

Taking place from 4th to 7th May, the festival promises an intimate gathering of top-quality music, food, drinks, and fun and offers a unique camping experience.

The festival’s Moon Stage will host four events, with one on each night, while the Sun Stage will be managed by BLANKet Music Picnics and will focus on various experimental electronic styles, such as Ambient, Chill-out, Deep House & Minimal Techno.

The cream of the local alternative electronic music scene will also also be performing, featuring veterans of techno, electro, dub and many other styles of music.

Besides the fantastic music, Boomerang Festival will offer various workshops during the day, a marketplace to explore, a chill-out area to meet artists and delicious food and drinks served all day.

For those who love camping, the festival’s campsite is situated under the trees, and a bar with discounted prices will be set up inside the campsite. Dedicated toilets and showers will be provided, along with free drinking water throughout the festival.

Boomerang Festival promises to be an unforgettable weekend of music, fun, and relaxation. So pack your bags, grab your tents, and get ready to dance and sing along with some of the top underground artists in the world.
