‘Touring Together Just Made Sense’: Two Of Malta’s Finest Alternative Bands Are Teaming Up To Take On The UK
The Maltese alternative scene is getting some much deserved international recognition as two local bands, Fuzzhoneys and Eyes To Argus, will be teaming up for a short tour of the four of the UK’s biggest cities.
The two bands will be playing in Manchester, Bristol, London and Sheffield from the 21st until the 24th of June for the aptly-named Eyes On The Hive UK mini tour
Fuzzhoneys is an all-female duo created around 2012. Francesca Mercieca belts out powerful vocals and and takes care of some serious guitar shredding, while Caroline Spiteri controls the tempo and tone on the drums.
Their latest single Candy off their debut Love Juice album uses darker, grungy vocals and guitar hooks to create a sound that perfectly contrasts the sweet and almost innocent title.
Eyes To Argus, on the other hand, is a four-piece band made up of Ben Mifsud Joslin and Samwel Mallia manning the guitar, bass and vocal sides, while Robert Farrugia manages the keyboard and guitar and Samuel Attard controls the drums and percussion.
Their latest single (and sprawling music video) Microcosm raked in over a thousand views in a matter of days when it was released earlier last month, with the song being described as a new era for the band whose “gritty and abrasive” sound was “unmistakably Eyes to Argus”.
As an ode to the two bands’ friendship, Microcosm’ music video was actually co-produced by Fuzzhoney’s Francesca herself.
“We share a lot of chemistry already, so touring together just made sense”
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Eyes To Argus’ Ben Mifsud Joslin explained how the two bands’ cooperation on Microcosm is actually just the tip of the iceberg.
“Our drummer Samuel recorded keyboards on the Fuzzhoneys track ‘Amy’,” he said. “Plus, Samwel and Caroline are bandmates in the local punk outfit BILA. We reckon that our melancholic grooves should pair up nicely with the Fuzzhoneys’ cooler-than-cool attitude.”
We definitely agree, and can’t wait to see what the two Maltese bands end up hitting the UK with.
