19 School Lunches Every Maltese Person Remembers Too Well
As another school year rolls around and thousands of lucky kids start their summer holidays, it’s as good a time as any to nostalgically reminisce about how amazing it was to have all your lunches made by your parents. And no matter who you were or where you went to school, everyone knows these lunches very well.
Sandwiches
1. Nutella
The ultimate treat (unless you were that lucky kid who always had nutella sandwiches), opening up your lunchbox to find these was the ultimate mood-booster in class.
2. Bovril
If you saw brown inside your sandwiches you probably got excited cos you thought it was Nutella, but it was probably just bovril.
3. Picnic sandwiches
This school staple was only complete with pre-sliced square ham and plasticy cheese. If you were lucky your mother would mix things up by spreading a little vache qui rit in there.
4. Tuna ħobża
It doesn’t matter how good it tastes, everyone around you is going to hate you for the smell unleashed on the classroom.
Snacks
5. Peperami
The spicy ones were a perfect chance to show off just how tough you are.
6. Babybel
Every cleaner’s worst nightmare #ThatRedPuttyTho
7. Kinder Brioss
The ultimate weapon, and a delicious snack – win-win really. Popping these is still fun as an adult, just FYI.
8. Cheese Dipper
The only maths kids cared about was trying to calculate the cheese-is-to-sticks ratio.
9. Chocolate dippers
What’s better than a cheese dipper? Some may say a chocolate dipper (although they’re probably wrong).
10. Pop tarts
A more refined treat, but the envy of everyone in the class. Still, a poptart that’s not straight out of the toaster isn’t that great.
11. Tiny yogurt pots
Where did these even come from?
12. Mini cheddars
The snack that keeps giving – if you didn’t lick your fingers after finishing them, did you really just eat Mini Cheddars?
13. Go Ahead
A slightly healthier option, the yogurt covered go-ahead were a top-tier, tradeable snack.
14. Rice cakes
“Look miss! I’m eating jablo”.
15. Dried fruit
Remember that one kid whose parents were super ahead of the times in terms of being health conscious?
16. Hit biscuits
The ultimate to-share birthday or end-of-school party snack. That white wrapper all the way around always proved to be a challenge in a hunger frenzy.
17. TUC biscuits
Who was the genius who combined cheese, bacon and children’s snacks?
18. All the cereal bars
Nicely packaged bars of literally nothing but sugar. #FrostiesForLife
19. And all the mini cereal boxes
Who needs milk when you can pour the entire box over your face and hope at least 50% end up in your mouth.
