A dog named Ġiġi was discovered abandoned in a plastic bag in Munxar, Gozo.

“Thankfully, passers-by noticed Ġiġi and heard his cries for help. They immediately called Animal Welfare, where our officers went on site. Ġiġi was riddled with fleas, anaemic and emaciated. He is now under our care and we will do our utmost for him,” Animal Welfare wrote.

The Directorate posted photos of the adorable Ġiġi to social media earlier today and captioned them, “Are we still living in a world where we think it is acceptable to put dogs in bags?”

“Are we still living in a world where we can choose to turn a blind eye in such situations?” they continued.

“Ġiġi was found this morning in Munxar. He was found tied in a little plastic bag inside a paper sack,” Animal Welfare explained, adding that luckily enough, passers-by noticed Ġiġi after hearing him whimpering and swiftly called the Directorate.

Animal Welfare promised that the individual who callously discarded the dog will be identified in time.

“Ġiġi, we promise you that you are finally safe! We will not rest until we find who did this to you.”

“To the public: If you know anything about this case or recognise this dog, please get in touch with us,” the Directorate urged.

Ġiġi is now safe at the Gozo SPCA adoption centre.
